Local Services

Nechako Lakes School District serves the communities of Vanderhoof, Fort St. James, Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, Southside, Grassy Plains, and Granisle.  We gratefully acknowledges that we live, work, and play on the unceded, ancestral territories of fourteen First Nations representing the Dakelh, Nedut’en and Wet’suwet’en peoples.  The following links provide access to resources available to families in our local communities.  

Works in all communities to provide Indigenous support and provides counselling support for children and youth of all backgrounds in Burns Lake, Granisle, Southside, and Grassy Plains.

EFAP Services

Many employers offer mental health counseling services to their employees and their family members.  Check with your employer if your work place offers these services to help support you, your spouse, and/or your child(ren).  

The Omineca Safe Home Society serves women and their children in Vanderhoof, SaiK’uz, Fraser Lake, Fort Fraser, Stellaten, Nadleh Whuten and surrounding communities by providing a transition home, as well as free support and counselling for women who have experienced sexual assault, violence, historical trauma, as well as grief and loss. They also provide outreach services.

The Crisis Center in Fraser Lake provides food, clothing and counselling supports for families and individuals in crisis.

The Foundry is coming to Burns Lake in partnership with CSFS.  They provided mental health services for youth ages 12 - 24. A variety of free online workshops are available virtually to support caregivers and youth across BC and can be accessed here

The Elizabeth Fry Society, located in Burns Lake, is a community-based, registered charity that supports women and their children who have experienced violence, abuse, marginalization and or criminalization. They provide crisis support, advocacy, education, and counselling to those at risk of harm.

Fireweed Collective Society

Fireweed Collective Society in Fort St. James is a registered charity that provides safety, shelter and emergency crisis support to Women and Children impacted by violence and abuse by delivering various supportive and accessible programs to empower Women and Children during their time of healing and to help reduce the impact of gender-based violence

Nezul Be Hunuyeh provides many services to families of the Tl’azt’en and Nakaz’dli communities, including support and intervention, assessment and referral, assistance with court proceedings, parenting skills and life skills.
